You can’t tell from this photo, but Eli had a pretty miserable day because he and his mommy caught the nasty cold that’s been going around. He could have caught it from me or from any of his relatives in West Nyack. I brought something back from California.
I started getting sick on Friday while I was still in San Francisco, but Eli and Deirdre didn’t start feeling bad until last night. Deirdre is already asleep right now because she had a splitting headache.
My hope is that I got a separate chest cold and head cold and that Deirdre and Eli only got the head cold. I’m feeling better today, although I still sound like I’m coughing up internal organs. The head cold part was bad, but it only lasted a day or two. The chest cold has lingered for nearly a week now.
Speaking of colds, all of the Birmingham ladies (and their lady friends) find this video to be hilarious. Before even seeing this video, they had independently coined the term “mancold.” It’s like a cold, but it carries the additional symptoms of needing to stay home from wirk, excessive whining and other attention-seeking behavior, overmedication (especially with NyQuil), and some other supposedly-hilarious thing that I can’t recall right now.
I’ll wait while you watch it.
If I were to direct a response to this video, it would go something like this: A woman walks into the room with a giant piece of metal protruding from her abdomen with blood spilling out. The man in the room looks horrified and asks if she is okay. She says “I’m fine. Just a little under the weather.” He says “Shouldn’t you go to the doctor? Don’t you want something for the pain?” She says, “No, I’m fine. I don’t like to take medication if I don’t have to. It’ll get better on its own.” (Pause for laughter.)
Anyway, that’s how I know that Deirdre was really sick: she actually took some medicine.
Even though Eli was sick, he was still a trooper and put in a lot of quality play time today. It’s so hard to believe that he was born 6 months ago today.
